Musical Germany, with trip to Germany May 13-23, 2010

This study tour will offer students a unique opportunity to explore the rich history, culture, and music of the eastern states of Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Thuringia. Our journey will begin with four or five days in Berlin, with day trips by bus or train to Potsdam, Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, Dessau, Halle, Weimar, and Eisenach. The remainder of the trip will be spent in Dresden, with a day trip to Leipzig. Students will visit homes and museums dedicated to seminal composers, artists, and writers including Bach, Liszt, Handel, Luther, Cranach, Goethe, Schiller, and more. Students will be expected to attend pre-trip seminars, keep a travel journal, attend concerts, and write a paper on a topic related to the subject of the course. Six Tuesdays TBA 6-8:30.
