Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam
Doing Business in Southeast Asia, with trip to Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam January 2-16, 2010
Snehamay Banerjee (snehamy@camden.rutgers.edu), Management, Management Science and Information Systems
This course addresses many of the complexities of the global marketplace and the peculiarities of doing business under dramatically different operating constraints. As a result, it will enhance students' understanding of the global business environment. Additional coverage will include topics such as the geography, history, culture, customs, political system, religion, and development of countries in Southeast Asia.
A fourteen-day trip in January to Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam will provide
students with firsthand experience of the differences in cultural,
social, and business environments in these countries. Hong Kong
is and industrialized country (now an SAR in China) that suffered
financial crises in 1998 and 2001. Thailand, a developing country
and a market economy, has mostly privately-owned businesses. Vietnam,
one of the fastest growing economies in the region, has a socialist
government and, except for small family-owned businesses, firms
are government-owned. Exposure to such diversities and challenges
makes this course unique and complements other international study
trip courses offered by the college.
